TALENT: John Swift

West Bromwich Albion Brom Tony Mowbray says he has not held any contract talks with rejuvenated midfielder John Swift.

The 29-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, had not contributed a goal or assist prior to Mowbray’s arrival in January.

But, pre-weekend, the former Reading man had found the net three times in his last seven games -including a sumptuous free-kick in the midweek draw with Burnley.

His recent form has helped to press his claims for a new deal at the Hawthorns.

Wonderful

“It shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody that John Swift can bend one in the top corner from 25 yards,” said Mowbray.

“He is a wonderful player and that is why he has been in the team.

“Will he stay?

“I don’t know the answer to that.

“It’s not something that me and John have talked about.

“I just want John to enjoy his football, because he’s a wonderful footballer.

“But if John’s not going to be here next year then what’s important for him is to perform well on the pitch and get as many suitors as he can.

“He understands the situation so let’s get to the end of the season and see what’s happened.”
