Can in-form Charlton Athletic make a late surge and join the battle for automatic promotion to the Championship? Absolutely.

The Addicks are flying at the moment and there’s always one team that comes from nowhere to gatecrash the party.

Just look at the way Coventry City have steamed into the top six in the Championship.

Form, confidence and momentum are massive at this stage of the season, so I think they’ve got a great chance.

PASSION: Nathan Jones

PASSION: Nathan Jones

Passionate

Whatever happens, I’m really pleased for their manager, Nathan Jones.

Cards on the table – I’ve known Nathan since my Brighton days and he’s a personal friend.

But that’s not the reason I want him to succeed.

I want him to succeed because I’ve never seen anyone so focussed or driven.

He never switches off, not for a moment, and he’s so passionate about what he does.

It really frustrates me that so many people only look at his record at Southampton or Stoke City and kind of use it to mock him.

There’s this narrative that he was out of his depth and isn’t really a very good manager.

It’s disrespectful.

He’s got an amazing body of work at Luton Town and the way Charlton are playing now only backs up the point.

He’s a top, top coach who works as hard as anyone and it would be great to see him get back to the Championship.
