Jewison Bennette has paid an emotional farewell to Sunderland after completing a £420,000 switch to Ukrainian side LNZ Cherkasy.

The Costa Rican international striker joined the Black Cats from CS Herediano in 2022 at the age of 18.

However, he scored just two goals in 21 appearances and has been completely overlooked by manager Regis Le Bris since returning from a loan spell in Greece with Aris Thessaloniki last summer.

“Thank you very much to the fans and teammates for the way they welcomed me,” said the 20-year-old.

“The support of the fans from day one to my last day in Sunderland treated me in the best way possible.

“My teammates welcomed me in a good way in the dressing room and made me feel at home.

“I will always carry those details in my heart. I wish them the best. I wanted to thank the Under-21 coaches.

“They helped me stay strong and focused on my goals.

“Now I have a new opportunity, and I want to make the most of it.

“Thanks again to everyone, and good luck.”
