STAR MAN

RUBEN ROOSKEN Huddersfield

INTERIM Huddersfield boss Jon Worthington could not ask for much more after his side smashed struggling Crawley to return to the top six.

Academy manager Worthington has been placed in charge of the Terriers for the rest of the season following Michael Duff ’s dismissal, with the brief of reviving their promotion push.

The Terriers caretaker boss said: “Other than conceding in the last minute, I think the perfection of the week has been topped off with that. I couldn’t be any happier.

“I said to the lads on the first day, we have to get onto teams, we have to be on the front foot, we have to win the ball high up the pitch, we have to be really aggressive, but also really brave on the ball. “We want to get attacking players into areas where they can impact and affect the game, and I was really pleased that we did that.

“I think the win was massively important because it allows us to build on something now and gives us a period of time to consolidate the squad and strengthen as well over our international break.” The Terriers had not scored in their previous six home games going back to December under Duff, but managed four inside half an hour against the relegation strugglers.

Joe Taylor tapped home a third-minute opener on his return to the starting line-up from injury, converting a simple chance on the rebound after Callum Marshall had a close-range effort saved.

West Ham United loanee Marshall hit a post six minutes later, with the ricochet hitting ting Crawley skipper per Charlie Barker r and going in.

Marshall found the net for Huddersfield’s s third, smashing home after visiting deiting fender Panutche Camara de-headed a corner ball directly to his feet. Another Ruben Roosken corner provided the fourth as Matty Pearson rose to bundle home.

Roosken made it five late on as he found the bottom corner, with Ade Adeyemo’s injury-time goal for Crawley little consolation. Crawley boss Rob Elliot was left with no positives to speak of with his side 12 points away from safety.

He said: “The start was horrendous.

“It’s just completely not acceptable the first 20 minutes.

“And it doesn’t really matter what happens in the rest of the game, because the game’s gone by then.”
