West Bromwich Albion head coach Tony Mowbray insists his side must become more ruthless after a disappointing draw against Hull City.

Abu Kamara’s goal cancelled out Isaac Price’s excellent opener in a 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns.

The Northern Irishman’s 67th-minute volley was his first goal in English football, but Hull substitute Kamara equalised in the 79th minute to make it 18 draws for the Baggies – more than any team in the top six tiers.

Afterwards, Mowbray called for his side to be more clinical.

Frustrated

“I’m left frustrated and disappointed,” he said.

“Did they deserve a draw?

“Maybe from what they did late on, but we have to be more ruthless and have more end product.

“We had 16 shots but only three on target.

“From that amount of shots, we have to hit the target seven or eight times, not three.

“I was frustrated that we were not two or three goals up because at 1-0 you’re always susceptible to conceding one to a bit of quality.

“We should have scored more in the first half – you can’t have 60 to 70 per cent possession and not have enough shots or work the goalkeeper for the position.

“We have to find the answers to that.

“Our keeper made saves late on but it felt like we were the dominant force, yet we have to be more clinical.”

Punished

Hull punished Albion’s lack of cutting-edge after goalscorer Price failed to snuff out the danger.

“Isaac is disappointed at the goal we lost because it went over his head,” said Mowbray.

“I said to him that maybe he’s got to move his feet quicker and flick it away for a corner.

“You can’t let it go over your head and allow someone to head it across the box.

“That’s his job, that’s his position today, but he’s not a right back.”

Match action

Albion missed first-half chances through Adam Armstrong twice, Mikey Johnston, and Karlan Grant.

The hosts began the second half with purpose and John Swift side-footed against the bar from just outside the area from Johnston’s square pass.

Matt Crooks glanced over from Hughes’s cross before Kyle Joseph missed Mason Burstow’s inviting centre as Hull looked for the breakthrough.

Price put the hosts ahead in the 67th minute, guiding home a nonchalant volley from just outside the box following a corner.

Price was close to making it 2-0 with an almost identical effort from Heggem’s cross, but it skidded just wide.

The Tigers punished Albion’s missed chances when Kamara reacted first to bundle home after fellow substitute Kasey Palmer set him up with a header.

Wildsmith then made successive diving saves, tipping away Joe Gelhardt’s shot, then substitute Lincoln Henrique’s follow-up before he foiled Kamara in a one-on-one after Joseph set him up on the break.
