Gary Johnson revels in new role at Cheltenham Town

Gary Johnson loves working alongside manager Michael Flynn at Cheltenham Town. There’s just one problem.
“When someone says ‘Gaffer’, we both turn around,” laughs the 69-year-old, who has been director of football at Whaddon Road since May. “To be totally honest, I’d forgotten my name was Gary until I started working here!”
And no wonder. Since replacing the legendary John Beck at Cambridge in 1992, Johnson has racked up an incredible 1,326 games in management with the likes of Yeovil, Bristol City, Peterborough, Northampton and Torquay.
