BRISTOL Rovers hope to have Michael Wimmer in the dugout before their clash with Exeter on Boxing Day.
The 44-year-old German has emerged as the Pirates’ No.1 choice to be their new head coach following the dismissal of Matt Taylor - but he may yet be denied a work permit.
Previously on the coaching staff at Nurnberg, Augsburg and VFB Stuttgart, Wimmer then spent 16 months in charge of Austria Wien, but was sacked in May after a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Austrian Bundesliga.
