HAD Chesterfield won promotion from the National League 12 months ago, I don’t think they’d have been ready for the EFL.
Paul Cook still needed time to change that squad around and in the end it took him 18 months to fine-tune the team that won last season’s title so convincingly.
Now they’re in a much stronger position and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them challenge for a place in League One.
One big concern is the defence. They conceded a lot of goals in the National League and a lot of their games were won in the last minute.
