Fleetwood Town head coach Simon Grayson signs contract extension

Former Sunderland and Preston manager Simon Grayson has earned himself a long-term contract at Fleetwood Town – following an upturn in form.

United double!

Fleetwood Town have confirmed that current head coach Simon Grayson will take charge of the League One club beyond this season.

Fleetwood Town have opted to extend the short-term contract of head coach Simon Grayson following an upturn in form for the Cod Army – which has included four wins out of his last five games in League One.

The club have also tied assistant head coach David Dunn down to a “long-term” deal.

Grayson, 51, succeeded current Bristol Rover’s manager Joey Barton on the 31 of January, with Fleetwood chairman Andy Pilley stating he wanted to go in a “different direction” with the club tenth in League One at the time of Barton’s dismissal.

Ex-Sunderland boss, Grayson, has achieved a record four promotions from League One with Blackpool, Preston North End, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town during his 16 years in management.

Fleetwood in a club statement noted that Grayson’s “experience” with “promotion” from England’s third tier was key to his appointment.

“Grayson arrived at the club with over 15 years of managerial experience, and multiple promotion-winning stints in League One.” Read the club statement.

Grayson’s first game as permanent head coach of Fleetwood is a home fixture against second placed Peterborough United on the 2 of April.
