BILL Shankly’s famous mantra that football is a simple game complicated by idiots was borne out by Sheffield Wednesday’s shock 2-1 win over Barnsley last weekend.
It has been obvious to any semi-regular observer of Wednesday that the embattled Owls do not possess a striker capable of operating as a lone target man.
Yet that has not stopped a succession of managers - Garry Monk, Tony Pulis, caretaker Neil Thompson - from attempting to impose a single-striker system, for whatever reason.
