GARY’S GUTTED BY LOSS OF RYAN

EXETER manager Gary Caldwell says the loss of influential midfielder Ryan Trevitt is a “huge blow” for the League One side.

Trevitt, 22, rejoined the Grecians on a second loan spell from parent club Brentford in January, having netted five goals in 22 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign.

He scored his first goal of his latest stint in Exeter’s 2-1win over Barnsley on Tuesday, but suffered a hamstring injury in the same game that has now ruled him out for the rest of the season.

“It’s a huge blow,” Exeter Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon. “It took him a couple of games to get going but since then he’s been absolutely outstanding.

“In my opinion, he’s a top, top player who’s had two spells here and in both of them he’s shown his quality.

“He can do everything as a midfielder. He can build as a six, he can arrive in the box from deeper positions with energy. Out of possession, he’s been brilliant for us, winning the ball back high, protecting the backline -he’s really an old-school all-round midfielder.

“For me, he’s way above the level and I’m sure he’ll have an amazing career where he plays at a higher level than he’s at. He’s a big loss to us because of the quality that he has.”
