LEAGUE TWO

EVERGREEN Doncaster Rovers defender Richard Wood is eager to play on into his forties.

The 39-year-old made his first start since August in the 1-1draw at Crewe Alexandra two weeks ago after returning from a long-term ankle injury.

The Rovers captain is out of contract with the League Two side this summer and turns 40 in July.

“I want to carry on if I can and my body permits me,” he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

“I want to see how I get on over the next couple of months and play as many games as I can.

“Hopefully I can impress the manager (Grant McCann) and stay in the team.

“If I can play on then brilliant.

“I want to play on into my forties.

“People are always telling me you’re a long time retired so I am trying my best to stay on the pitch.”
