Richard Kone’s double earns Wycombe victory against 10-man Barnsley

Richard Kone Wycombe

Richard Kone scored a stoppage-time winner as his brace helped Wycombe come from behind to beat 10-man Barnsley 2-1 at Adams Park.

Despite a sluggish start from both teams, it was the Tykes who took the lead thanks to a well-taken Jonathan Russell strike after 10 minutes.

His first-time volley was sweetly struck and a slight deflection off Declan Skura took the ball past goalkeeper Franco Ravizzoli and into the bottom right-hand corner.

This seemed to wake Wycombe up as they bombarded the Barnsley goal.

Ben Killip was on hand to deny Kone on three occasions in quick succession.

The former Hartlepool stopper was also on hand to thwart Dan Udoh, Cameron Humphreys and Jack Grimmer, on what was the latter’s 200th Wycombe appearance.

The second period belonged to the Chairboys and they were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute when Fred Onyedimna was clipped in the penalty area by Donovan Pines. Kone stepped up to score.

Things got worse for Barnsley as Marc Roberts was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on Luke Leahy.

Then, with seconds remaining, Garath McCleary’s cross was headed home by Kone – his 19th goal of an impressive campaign.

Wanderers stay second on 58 points, while Barnsley are ninth.
