Match Preview: Bristol Rovers v Peterborough United (Saturday, 3pm)

Bristol Rovers host Peterborough United on Saturday at the Memorial Stadium in League One.

In their last league match, on Tuesday, Rovers beat Cambridge United 1-0 at home, with their goal scored by Chris Martin.

Peterborough also won, 4-1 at home against Fleetwood Town, with Jonson Clarke-Harris (two), Archie Collins and Malik Maine Mothersille on the scoresheet.

With 84 goals in 43 games so far this season, Peterborough are the league’s highest scorers with 2.0 goals per game. And they are conceding at an average rate, letting in 56 goals at a rate of 1.3 per game.

Rovers, meanwhile, are below average scorers, with 1.2 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.3. They have conceded 1.5 goals per game.

In the last 10 years, Rovers and Peterborough have played each other on 13 occasions. Rovers won one of them, Peterborough seven, and they drew five times.

On average, the Gas scored 0.8 goals and the Posh 1.6 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on September 30, when Peterborough won 2-0 at home.

United are fourth in the table after 43 games, of which they have won 24 and drawn eight, earning 80 points.

In Martin, the home team have one of the league’s sharpest shooters so far this season. He has notched 16 goals in 34 appearances, to sit fifth in the scoring charts.

His goal rate of one every 159 minutes is quicker than that of Ephron Mason-Clark, the visitors’ top scorer with a goal every 251 minutes, and a total of 14 goals in 41 games.

Rovers are in mixed form in League One, with two wins and a draw from their last six games.

With three wins and three losses over that period, Peterborough’s form is slightly better – they have taken nine points from 18, compared to Rovers’ seven.

Saturday’s match will be refereed by Tom Reeves, who has taken charge of 15 League One games so far this season, issuing three red cards and booking 48 players. He has awarded five penalties.

The last Rovers game Reeves refereed was a 2-1 away loss to Derby County on November 25. His last Peterborough match was their 2-1 loss away at Exeter City on February 6.
