Match Preview: Oxford United v Peterborough United (Saturday, 3pm)

Peterborough United travel to Oxford United on Saturday in League One.

The visitors come into the game on the back of a win in their last match, having beaten Port Vale 3-0 at home, with goals from Alex Iacovitti, Harrison Burrows and Joel Randall.

The Us also won their last match, 4-0 against Burton Albion, with their goals scored by Mark Thomas Harris, Josh Murphy and James Henry.

With 80 goals in 41 games so far this season, Peterborough are the league’s highest scorers with 2.0 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 50 goals at a rate of 1.2 per game.

Oxford are also above average scorers, with 1.7 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.3. They have conceded 1.3 goals per game.

In the last 10 years, Oxford and Peterborough have played each other on 15 occasions. They won six each, and they drew three times.

On average, the Us scored 1.1 goals and the Posh 1.3 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on December 9, when Peterborough won 3-0 at home.

Oxford United are two places behind the Posh in sixth, with 20 wins and 10 draws putting them on 70 points.

The away team’s Burrows is among the league’s most creative players, racking up 13 assists in 41 appearances so far this season, and holding second spot in League One’s assist charts.

For the Us, Cameron Brannagan has set up the most goals, having laid on nine assists in 40 games.

The hosts are in good form in League One, with four wins and a draw from their last six games.

With four wins and two losses over that period, Peterborough’s form is slightly worse – they have taken 12 points from 18, compared to Oxford’s 13.

Saturday’s match will be refereed by Andy Davies, who has taken charge of one League One game so far this season, issuing no red cards and booking five players. He has not awarded any penalties.

He is yet to oversee a match featuring either Oxford or Peterborough this season.
