Match Preview: Cheltenham Town v Charlton Athletic (Tuesday, 7.45pm)

Charlton Athletic face Cheltenham Town on Tuesday seeking to protect their long unbeaten run in League One.

The Addicks are unbeaten in five, with one win and four draws, ahead of the 7.45pm kick-off.

They face a Cheltenham team who have won two and drawn two over the same number of games.

In Alfie May, Charlton have the league’s most on-form striker so far this season. He has notched 17 goals in 33 appearances.

Cheltenham’s top scorers, with seven goals each, are William Neil Goodwin and Liam Sercombe.

In the last 10 years, Cheltenham and Charlton have played each other on six occasions. Cheltenham won three of them, Charlton one, and they drew twice.

On average, the Robins scored 1.3 goals and the Addicks 1.0 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on November 28, when Charlton won 2-1 at home.

Town are 21st in the table after 34 games, of which they have won nine and drawn seven, earning 34 points.

Athletic are three places ahead of the Robins in 18th, with eight wins and 14 draws putting them on 38 points.

With 28 goals in 34 games so far this season, the hosts are the league’s third-lowest scorers with 0.8 goals per game. And they are conceding at an average rate, letting in 45 goals at a rate of 1.3 per game.

The Addicks, meanwhile, are above average scorers, with 1.4 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.3. They have conceded 1.5 goals per game.

Cheltenham’s last match was on Saturday, a 0-0 draw against Burton Albion.

Charlton drew 1-1 with Northampton Town last time out, also on Saturday, with Karoy Zidane Lovebourne Anderson on the scoresheet.

Tuesday’s match will be refereed by Scott Jackson, who has taken charge of six League One games so far this season, issuing no red cards and booking 21 players. He has not awarded any penalties.

He is yet to oversee a match featuring either Cheltenham or Charlton this season.
