Match Preview: Walsall v Doncaster Rovers (Saturday, 3pm)

Walsall host Doncaster Rovers at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Saturday on the back of four consecutive wins in League Two.

Walsall have picked up 13 points from their last six games, and they face a Rovers side who have also won their last two matches, and collected 11 points from the last possible 18.

In the last 10 years, Walsall and Doncaster have played each other on 11 occasions. Walsall won eight of them, Doncaster two, and they drew once.

On average, the Saddlers scored 2.0 goals and the Rovers 1.0 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on May 8, when Walsall won 2-1 at home.

With 43 goals in 33 games so far this season, Doncaster are scoring at below the league average rate with 1.3 goals per game. And they are conceding more than average, letting in 57 goals at a rate of 1.7 per game.

Walsall, meanwhile, are average scorers, with 1.5 goals per game. They have conceded 1.4 goals per game.

Rovers are 20th in the table after 33 games, of which they have won 11 and drawn six, earning 39 points.

The Saddlers are 13 places ahead of the Rovers in seventh, with 14 wins and nine draws putting them on 51 points.

In Joe Ironside, the visitors have one of the league’s sharpest shooters so far this season. He has notched 14 goals in 33 appearances, to sit ninth in the scoring charts.

The home team’s top scorers, with 10 goals each, are Freddie Draper and Isaac Hutchinson.

Walsall’s last match was on Tuesday, a 2-1 win against Accrington Stanley, with David Okagbue and Emmanuel Adegboyega getting the goals for the Saddlers.

Doncaster beat AFC Wimbledon 1-0 last time out, on February 24, with Hakeem Adelakun on the scoresheet.
