Extra time is ‘Too much’

Experienced midfielder Matthew Lund has called for a rethink over the huge increase in stoppage time this season – because he fears players’ welfare is being put at risk.
The EFL is committed to trying to increase the amount of time the ball is in play this term across its divisions. There has been a crackdown on timewasting, while referees have also been told to add on the exact amount of time taken up by certain situations – like goals and substitutions – instead of the ‘nominal’ amount they did before.
