Should Richard Wood achieve what he wants to this season, there will be few places left in South Yorkshire that don’t roll out the red carpet when the veteran defender is in town.
Yes, he might still have to buy his own pint in Barnsley and areas of Sheffield where the locals are of a red-and-white persuasion, but Wood could be pretty much handed the keys to the rest of the county if he helps Doncaster secure promotion from League Two.
