BORO TURN UP THE HEAT!

Carrick’s troops boost automatic challenge

Delighted manager Michael Carrick hailed his troops after Middlesbrough romped to a 4-0 win against Preston to move to within three points of second-placed Sheffield United.

The prolific Chuba Akpom bagged the opener before Cameron Archer (two) and Marcus Forss got in on the act.

“It was a good performance from the start and we really got in our stride from kick-off,” said Carrick. “All aspects of the game were good, the energy and some of our football was very good.

“We will go away in the international break now, refocus for the run-in and take it game by game.”

Meanwhile, Rotherham’s game against Cardiff, who were leading 1-0, was abandoned early in the second half after a deluge of rain. The EFL will review the decision.
