CROWDS SURGE AS EFL BEGINS…

THE return of the Sky Bet EFL was greeted with bumper crowds across all three divisions last weekend – with the opening weekend aggregate attendance of 449,870 being the best in 13 years and up 17 per cent on last year.
Matchday one’s largest attendance was seen at the Stadium of Light as 40,851 supporters watched the 1-1 draw between Sunderland and Coventry City – already surpassing last season’s highest individual match attendance.
That fixture contributed to a total attendance of 220,087 in the Sky Bet Championship, an average of 18,341...
