IT’S a shame Roy Keane turned down the opportunity to return to Sunderland, but it may well have been the right decision for both him and the club.
Keane and I go way back to our days playing for the Republic of Ireland and I was one of his first signings when he took over the Black Cats in 2006.
The impact he had was incredible. With the team languishing towards the bottom of the Championship, he inspired a remarkable turnaround that saw a title victory and with it the city of Sunderland took Roy to their hearts.
