Enough is Enough – The FLP endorses boycott of social media led by EFL clubs

The FLP will be on sale as normal on Sunday, but our social media channels will be silent in solidarity with clubs boycotting platforms

Enough is Enough.

The EFL, together with a host of football institutions, will unite for a social media boycott from 15.00 on Friday 30 April to 23.59 on Monday 3 May, in response to the ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players and many others connected to football.

This has been scheduled to take place across a full fixture programme in the men’s and women’s professional game and will see clubs across the EFL, Premier League, WSL and Women’s Championship switch off their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Even after the announcement of the boycott, it took little time for Blackpool midfielder Grant Ward to be the victim of grotesque abuse on Wednesday. No person, nor public figure, should have to be subjected to hate or discrimination with their abuser able to hide behind a veil of anonymity and unaccountability for their callous actions.

To not take part in the boycott would be a huge disservice to the players, coaches and club staff who give us football fans moments of joy to remember, and more specifically to The FLP – hours of their own time and a livelihood.

Therefore, we will stand alongside the EFL’s member clubs and the wider football community to boycott social media and leave our accounts silent until Tuesday, May 4 because change is needed.

As usual, The FLP will be on sale on newsstands across England and Wales for our readers to enjoy their Sunday mornings with, while our website will also be full with all the action from the Championship, League One and League Two.

Enough is Enough.
