BRENTFORD was the final stop of my career, and in 2004-05 it was light years from the club it is today.
There was no money to buy players. Everything was run on a shoestring. Martin Allen, the manager, basically cobbled people together - players like Jamie Lawrence, Sam Sodje, Chris Hargreaves. Journeymen, in other words, and old-timers like me!
But he created a great spirit and Griffin Park was a fantastic ground. Tight and compact, probably four or five thousand people. It was a wonderful family club and a joy to play there.
