WHEN will the game’s authorities fi nally grasp what supporters and players really want from VAR? We don’t want to see cast-iron rules correctly applied. We just want decisions that are fair and make sense.
By the letter of the law, Mo Salah’s goal for Liverpool against Tottenham in midweek was correctly ruled out due to a handball by Roberto Firmino in the build-up.
Jonathan Moss in the VAR booth recommended no goal, a view quickly rubber-stamped by referee Martin Atkinson after consulting a pitchside monitor.
