WITH their promotion rivals bidding to take a step into the third round of the FA Cup these two sides had the opportunity to confirm their places in the promotion race.
Both had come into the game with a midweek defeat, Ipswich losing at home to leaders Hull City and Charlton coming out second best at basement club Burton Albion.
