IT’S fair to say the football fraternity would have preferred not to have any friendlies over the recent international break.
Qualifiers, fine. Nations League, fine. But at this stage, with the pandemic raging and the amount of games crammed into the calendar, everybody could have done without them.
Everybody, that is, with the exception of all those Football Associations across Europe and the rest of the world.
For them, it’s critical. They’re not getting any gate money from matches but they are getting TV revenue and advertising money. They need that as much as ever...
