SOUTHEND midfielder Lewis Gard is not expected to play again this season as he prepares to undergo surgery for a cruciate ligament injury.
The 21-year-old left the field on a stretcher during the EFL Trophy clash with Portsmouth last week.
Scans showed the injury to be worse than first feared, and boss Mark Molesley said: “That was a real sad one for us and a tough one to take.
“He’s seen the surgeon and he’s booked in for it in the coming weeks.
