FOR the gover nment to demand the Premier League fund a £250m bailout for the EFL is outrageous.
Pro-rata, top-flight football is one of the biggest tax contributors to the UK. According to figures released in 2017, a combination of tax, national insurance and VAT equates to about £7.6 billion per annum into the national coffers.
In fact, if you take the total sum of employees in football, you would see that this industry earns the gover nment more revenue per person than pretty much any other industry in this country.
