EXPECT MORE GOAL SPREES

IT TOOK a while, but a goal-crazy week has demonstrated the full effect of playing games behind closed doors.
The weekend saw 44 goals plundered in ten Premier League matches, a record for a single round of fixtures in the 20-team era.
In the Carabao Cup, Newcastle thrashed Morecambe 7-0, Chelsea put six past Barnsley and Liverpool mashed Lincoln 7-2. A one-off week? Possibly.
More likely, we are seeing what worldclass forwards can do when they aren’t affected by hostile crowds, expectant home fans and the other distractions that come with a traditional match-day atmosphere.
