MELLISH SHINES IN NEW ROLE

CARLISLE boss Chris Beech believes Jon Mellish could have a future as a box-to-box midfielder.
The 22-year-old was signed from Gateshead as a defender, but has struggled for game time in that position.
Beech gave Mellish a chance in midfield in a reserve-team game against Kendal and he scored a perfect hat-trick.
That performance prompted a first-team recall in a midfield role and Beech was impressed.
“I thought in midfield that would free him up a bit,” said Beech. “Maybe he’ll grow into that and become a dominant midfield player.”
