VAR has no place in the game if it is to be used in situations such as that which saw Manchester City awarded a penalty against Tottenham in midweek.
As a long-term exponent of video assistance, I had imagined a system that ended blatant injustices.
Thierry Henry’s deliberate handball against the Republic of Ireland in 2009; the absurd offi- ciating that cost Cardiff victory against Chelsea two weeks ago. Clear refereeing errors that nobody could reasonably dispute.
What this version of VAR offers, however, is nitpicking and pedantry.
