MORECAMBE’S heroic defence was compared to a boxer on the ropes by manager Jim Bentley as they held on to get a valuable three points against Wycombe.
First-half goals from Steve Old and Adam McGurk put the Chairboys to the sword and despite prolonged spells of second-half pressure, Wycombe were unable to mount the comeback required. Adebayo Akinfenwa gave Wycombe hope after 82 minutes, impressively heading a Paris Cowan-Hall cross from the right-hand side but it proved insufficient.
